Wow it has been nearly an entire year since I have written one of my blogs about spirituality. Life has definitely taken over the past year and I have not had time to meditate or pour into another article. However now is the time to deliver another! Thank you for your patience!
Foreigners & Strangers on Earth
No matter what your belief is on spirituality, God, heaven or hell, big bang theory and the afterlife one thing is clear and that is the length of our journey here on this planet. The truth is each one of is on a limited time crunch and eventually we will all run our race to the very end. If one can summarize the objective of humanity you could say it would be to embark upon a personal quest to find purpose and meaning as to why we were born. Everywhere around us we can look and see on our left and right people who are on this endless mission to find fulfillment and a sense of belonging.
“Remember, we are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” – Stephen Covey
These words especially resonated deep within some of our ancient hebraic forefathers in the text of Hebrews 11. This noteworthy chapter of scripture describes many of the heroes of old who were described as the fathers and mothers of faith.
“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.”
Have you ever tried to fit in before to groups you thought would welcome you with open arms and were soundly rejected?
Has the thought ever entered your mind that you do not fit in with the status quo?
Have you ever been labelled weird, strange, rebellious toward “authority” and ask too many questions?
If you said yes to one or more of these questions then you are a spiritually conscious and free person who is already on a pilgrimage for your full inheritance in life. If you resonate with any of these scenarios then you are far ahead of the majority of the crowd. You are beginning to understand that you are a spiritual pilgrim that is becoming free of the Matrix of control, manipulation, hierarchy and institutional indoctrination. Ultimately you are dislocated from what people call normal and acceptable…and this is completely ok.
You Do Not Belong Here
Over 4 years ago I was with my parents meeting with a particular Charismania minister who many would call a radical, revolutionary leader in the Body of Christ. Since the time we met with this man he has become the pastor of a large church in Northern California in the USA. This large international ministry was where we went to bible college as a family. Worldwide it is recognized as a supernatural ministry school and training centre that claims to raise up and release revivalists. To keep a long story short my family went to attend the school, learn and eventually hoped to serve and be a part of what God was doing in that church. We had plans to partner and co-labor and assist in penetrating Africa and doing missionary work overseas as well as “serve the vision of the leaders there”. For over a decade we had already been involved before we even attending the school in many voyages to Africa and missions work and been a part of ministry training workshops, outreaches, church plants and countless activities to reach people in unconventional ways for Christ. Unfortunately from the day we arrived we were marked for whatever reason based on “a feeling” that the supposed in house prophet had about our family. No explanation was given other than “he had a feeling” about us and refused to work with us to see our dream come true to serve in Africa and in their church. We tried finding out the truth and why we were marked…but no answers were given. We were stonewalled each time we tried pursuing the truth.
Finally after many trials, circumstances and scenarios we came to the office of this “minister” who today is the pastor of that church. Knowing our entire story, knowing our hearts, knowing our desire to serve their vision…knowing they had an entire family that was willing to give their entire lives to the call of God and he looked at us and said with complete disdain:
“Why are you still here? What is left for you here?”
What was said afterwards really did not mean much to me as I knew at that moment that there was no future to be had with this ministry. It hit me at that moment that I was truly Dislocated from organized institutional religion. I simply did not fit their grid or paradigm and they simply wanted me and my family out. Years later I look back and am thankful that those questions were asked of me.
Why was I wasting my time there?
Could I benefit and grow in my spirituality by staying there?
The obvious answer is no. Their ceiling was not my floor as they liked to claim week after week from the pulpit…no their ceiling was my lid. Furthermore they had no ability to turn their love button on for my family and I but they selectively can and will for those who will become their clones. That is elitism something that is dangerous and against the nature of Christ.
