Being A Gatekeeper of Our Senses

No matter what time of the day it is whether it is morning, afternoon or evening every human being on the planet will encounter things that must be filtered and processed through the senses.   Scientifically it is proven that the majority of the data that influences us comes through our eye gate.  It is easy for us recognize where a person’s gaze and attention is focused on by listening to what comes from their heart when they talk.  However it is much easier to discern by looking straight into the eyes, for it is in that place that holds one of the major keys to functioning in life.

The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.”

We live in a culture today that contains so much worldly junk yet through the quagmire of life there are nuggets of gold that are edible and good for our spirit man to partake of through our senses.   There are many notable individuals in history of spiritual pilgrims who lived during very immoral times yet managed to live in the seer realm, the world of interaction with the Creator because they chose to keep their gaze fixed purely on revelations that were divine.   Some of those examples can be found in the ancient codebook called the “inspired word”.  In that book there are stories of people like Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Samuel, Deborah, Ezekiel, Mary, and John the Baptist & John the Beloved who all lived a life of pursuing a connection with the Creator.  Each of these forerunners had one major common thread:  They were extraordinary “gatekeepers of their senses” but because they chose to be ones of right standing they had to pay a significant personal price during their lives that set them apart from the crowd.

There is a famous quote, in the 1989 Movie “Field of Dreams” that is a great illustration of the point I am conveying: “If you build it, they will come!”   In other words what kind of data we take in through our senses will determine and build much of how we operate in life whether for good or evil.  If you think I am giving too much credit to what the world calls normal that most people participate in like seeing very violent movies, graphic sex on the theatre screen, Grand Theft Auto type of video games where you are taught to steal, kill and destroy then consider this fact.   Many scientific studies over the years have proven that video games and movies affect people’s behavior.   If one watches enough movies that contain sex on the TV screen or play enough video games of murdering people eventually that person becomes desensitized to what is reality and what is not.  Eventually they will go out and literally relive what they watched on TV or played on their gaming system.   Many surveys prove that the majority of teen pregnancies happen because of being exposed to sex through the television.   By the way it doesn’t matter whether somebody is young or old…immorality and perversion corrupts the human spirit!

The surveys mentioned above are negative examples of being a poor gatekeeper of one’s senses.  But here is the good news…CAN YOU IMAGINE what happens when set our focus on the right source of pleasure and bliss?  The Spirit of Life itself is our supreme portion and when we get that we can receive all that connection encompasses!

So how can we be gatekeepers for our senses and co-operate with the Spirit to receive and build our “field of dreams”?

Finally…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”
